Philip Hitchman, HND Agriculture, Cert ed

Philip Hitchman is a self employed organic agricultural consultant. He was originally involved in education and training when employed as an agricultural lecturer at the Derbyshire College of Agriculture. This College converted part of its farms to organic management in 1990. In 1999 Philip started working through The Organic Advisory Service, Elm Farm, delivering advisory visits to farmers as part of DEFRA's Organic Conversion Information Service. These visits have been conducted throughout England and have included the full range of farming businesses from small family units through to large estates.

Philip has also been employed by Elm Farm's Organic Advisory Service to conduct ongoing consultancy visits. This work has mainly involved dairy farms. At the beginning of 2006 he started working in Wales providing advice to farmers considering the conversion option. This work has been mainly been with beef, sheep and dairy farms.
